Authority Decay
The gradual weakening of authority as evidence ages and references disappear.
Aingworth Concept
Full explanation
Authority Decay is the gradual weakening of a brand's authority as evidence goes out of date, references disappear, or competing sources become more current and credible. Authority is not built once. It is maintained.
Why this matters
It is the reason authority needs ongoing attention. A brand that stops publishing evidence does not hold its position, it slowly loses it to whoever is still publishing.
Where this sits
Authority Decay belongs to Recognition & Authority, one of the seven layers of the Aingworth Glossary. What Aingworth believes. Recognition is the outcome; authority is the evidence that makes it possible. These are the terms that belong to Aingworth, most of them first set out in Become the Answer.
