Query Fan-Out

Breaking one question into many searches before answering.

Industry Term

Full explanation

Query fan-out is the process of breaking a complex question into multiple related searches or subtopics so an AI system can gather information from a wider range of sources before constructing an answer.

Why this matters

One buyer question can generate many underlying searches. That rewards brands recognized across a network of related topics and penalizes those optimized for a single keyword.

Where this sits

Query Fan-Out belongs to Retrieval, Evidence & Consensus, one of the seven layers of the Aingworth Glossary. Information exists, then it is retrieved, then sources are selected, then they corroborate one another, then consensus emerges. This is where Aingworth's Consensus Over Rankings thesis lives.
