Recognition Signal

Information that helps a system correctly identify and recall a brand.

Aingworth Concept

Full explanation

A recognition signal is a piece of information that helps a system correctly identify, understand, and recall a brand and what it is known for. Recognition signals and authority signals work together: one helps a system know who a brand is, the other helps it trust what the brand claims.

Why this matters

Identity comes before trust. A system that cannot reliably tell one brand from another has nothing to attach credibility to in the first place.

Where this sits

Recognition Signal belongs to Recognition & Authority, one of the seven layers of the Aingworth Glossary. What Aingworth believes. Recognition is the outcome; authority is the evidence that makes it possible. These are the terms that belong to Aingworth, most of them first set out in Become the Answer.
