An authority signal is a piece of evidence, first-party, third-party, editorial, or institutional, that helps establish a brand's expertise, credibility, or standing within its category.

Why this matters

Signals are what a system actually works with. Expertise that has never been documented, referenced, or published produces no signal at all, however real it is.
