AI Recommendation
When an AI system puts a brand forward as an option worth considering.

Full explanation
An AI recommendation happens when an AI system identifies a brand, product, or source as relevant to what someone needs and includes it among the options it presents. A brand can be visible without being recommended.
The distinction from a plain mention is intent. A mention can happen in passing, a brand named as an example or as one of several options listed without preference. A recommendation is the system actively putting a brand forward as suited to what the person described, closer to a considered suggestion than a factual aside.
In practice this is harder to isolate cleanly than a citation or mention count, because models do not label their own output as mention versus recommendation. Reading for it usually means checking whether the brand appears with qualifying language, such as "a good option for" or "worth considering if," rather than only in a neutral list.
Why this matters
Mention and recommendation are different commercial events. Being named in passing and being put forward as the answer produce very different outcomes, and only one of them wins work.
Example
Someone asks an AI system which firm to use for a specific problem. If the system lists five names with no comment, that is closer to a set of mentions. If it says "for a business your size, [brand] is a strong fit because," that is an AI recommendation: the system has taken a position, not just supplied a list.
Where this sits
AI Recommendation belongs to AI-Mediated Discovery, one of the seven layers of the Aingworth Glossary. The larger shift Aingworth is talking about, covering Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, and whatever comes after them, without depending on any one platform's name.
