Entity Recognition
Identifying and classifying real-world things within text.
Technical Term
Full explanation
Entity recognition is the process by which a system identifies and classifies real-world things, such as a person, brand, or place, within text or data.
Why this matters
Before a system can attach any authority to a brand, it has to reliably pick that brand out of text and tell it apart from similarly named ones.
Where this sits
Entity Recognition belongs to Search, SEO & Generative Optimization, one of the seven layers of the Aingworth Glossary. The established disciplines brands use to improve discoverability. Useful, and often necessary, but tactics that sit on top of a brand's underlying authority infrastructure rather than replace it.
